Alan Yardley Bio

Most people prefer to sail in company and the same was true for myself especially (as is logical) in my early days of learning.


However in 1994 after my first 2 x handed Trans Atlantic race I tentatively went for my first single handed sail from the island of St Lucia to the island of Martinique in the Caribbean in very pleasant weather, a humble journey of 20 or so nautical miles.


Since then the challenges have grown to encompass single handed trans-ocean undertakings from which the rewards of having achieved something special, alone and unassisted, have become an addiction.
