NIMBUS II (Richard Raea)

Description

Nimbus ll is a sister ship (some what modified) to the original Crewcut. The Crewcut gained notoriety in the 70’s with her voyage through the Pacific Islands. Sea Spray magazine covered the adventure in several articles over several months. The following year she was awarded the Blue Water Medal for cruising by the Northland Harbor Board.

Alan Hooper, the builder, was foreman for Jim Young Marine at the time of building Nimbus ll. And she was built to the same scantlings as the NZ 37, a popular timber cruiser being built for export and the local market. Construction method was three skins of Kauri, cold molded and glassed over kauri stringers and ring frames with ply/glass decks and cockpit.
